POST-OPERATIVE INFORMATION
Carpal tunnel release
Immediately after your surgery:
-
Rest quietly – no exercise or lifting. Try to keep hand elevated as much as possible.
-
Leave the crepe bandage in place for 3 days, you may then remove it but leave the white tape that is covering your suture line in place until you come and see us 7-10 days after your surgery.
-
You may then get the tapes wet, pat them dry with a towel or use a hair dryer to dry them if you wish.
-
Panadol 4-6 hourly usually helps but if you require anything stronger than this please contact the rooms.
Taking care of your wound, showering and what to do before your next appointment:
-
You may drive when you feel safe to, but avoid it if possible for 2 weeks.
Post-operative appointment:
-
Your first initial post-op appointment will be made around 10 days post your surgery.
-
Your tapes will be changed and the wounds will be assessed.
Things to note:
-
If you develop any severe swelling, bruising, redness, pain, wound discharge or fevers, please contact the rooms on 8267 3976 or see your local GP (if you are unable to get into the rooms). If after-hours, contact the Nurse Manager of the hospital where you had your procedure.
